Padua Students Explore the Land of Fire and Ice
To close out the school year, a group of Padua Pandas embarked on an unforgettable weeklong journey to Iceland, exploring both its vibrant capital, Reykjavík, and the breathtaking southern coast. Led by AP Chemistry teacher Mrs. Christine Campbell, the trip offered students a unique blend of education, adventure, and cultural immersion.
Throughout the week, students experienced Iceland’s most iconic natural wonders, including the majestic waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, and the dramatic cliffs of the southern coastline. They hiked across the awe-inspiring Sólheimajökull Glacier and explored the famous Golden Circle, which includes Þingvellir National Park, the erupting Great Geysir, and the powerful Gullfoss Falls.
The group also had the opportunity to learn about Iceland’s renewable energy and geology during visits to the Hellisheiði Geothermal Plant and various geothermal sites. A true highlight was boiling eggs in geothermally heated water and sampling rye bread baked underground by steam!
From soaking in the world-renowned Blue Lagoon to visiting the President’s residence, watching puffins by boat off the coast of Akurey and Lundey islands, and enjoying scenic drives through volcanic landscapes, the trip was packed with hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences.
Along the way, students participated in guided hikes, team-building activities, and local farm visits, all while building strong bonds and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of our planet. This once-in-a-lifetime trip not only fostered camaraderie and curiosity but also provided a lasting reminder of the power of travel to educate and inspire.
Special thanks to Mrs. Campbell for her thoughtful planning and dedication in making this incredible experience possible for our students!
