The Legacy of Shot Put at Padua

Did anyone see a tall, athletic, strong-willed American female win the 2020 Olympic Gold Medal in Discuss? Her name was Valerie Allman and she was a dancer. In high school she decided to try something new so she joined the track and field team and that’s where her new found talent for throwing began and the rest was Olympic Gold Medal History!

In 2014, Padua graduate Ashley Mushiatti, was a four year member of Padua Academy’s Track and Field Program. She began her career at Padua as a volleyball and basketball athlete. During her freshman year she joined the Padua Track and Field team to give throwing the shot put and discus a try. During her time on the team, she was awarded All State all four years and was also named the Delaware State Champ in Shot-put.
Her hard work and dedication to the craft earned her a scholarship to Appalachian State University where she was member of the Track and Field Team all four years, continuing her success as a shot up/discus thrower.

Continuing the tradition of successful shot putters, 2019 graduate Chioma Njoku also saw equal success at the toe board. Starting out as a basketball player, Chioma joined the Spring Track and Field team to throw the shot. During her time on the team, she was awarded All State three times and she earned State Champ honors her senior year. Chioma was offered many D1 scholarships through her success. She chose to continue her education at University of Delaware where is currently a member of the Track and Field Team.
