Padua Soccer Scores 11th Division-1 Delaware State Title

In the final 2:10 minutes of the DIAA Division 1 State Championship held at Dover HS on Tuesday, June 1, Padua Soccer's Anna Poehlmann '22 added the needed goal to push the Pandas past Smyrna High, thus defending their 2019 State Title. This mark's Padua's 11th Delaware Championship.

Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff, with a special shout-out to Brieana Hallo '21 for scoring Padua's initial goal just four minutes into the game off a beautiful pass by Sydni Wright '21, and Junior Haley Dougherty for her cross to Anna for the winning goal.

From Delaware Online's Brad Myer's post-game coverage:

"Like all of the other spring sports champions who were able to win this year after last season was wiped out by the coronavirus pandemic, this one meant even more to Padua’s seniors.

'Especially with the COVID year, this win is just extremely special,' Sydni Wright said. 'We’ve been putting in the work since junior year. We wanted to win junior year, but we couldn’t have that season. So to be able to come back after such a tough year for everybody, it’s just really something special.'
