From the Head of School - January 14th, 2019

Dear Parents, Alumnae, & Friends,

This story came to me via email from one of our teachers, Mrs. Volpe. She began, "I wanted to share a story with you about last night's varsity basketball game. Players were announced and then the audience was asked to stand for the National Anthem. After a few awkward moments, the announcer let us know the music was not connecting and we would have to skip the National Anthem. Everyone sat down and prepared to watch the game. Then, OUR STUDENTS, started singing! I believe it was the JV team who started it; but soon the rest of the audience followed and everyone stood up to turn toward the flag. It was a beautiful moment and left me with goosebumps! I am so proud of our students and our basketball team!"

Thank you, Mrs. Volpe. This truly is a wonderful story of young women who are not afraid to take a step out of their comfort zone and think of another solution to a problem. Our girls did not make fun of the people in charge of the music or huff and puff like it would not have happened if they were in charge. The blame game is just not their style. They just began to sing, and look what happened!

So how is this story related to the Gospel? A few years ago, there was a slogan that became very popular, "What would Jesus do?" WWJD was everywhere. I used it to talk about forgiveness as an elementary school principal. But today our questions may go a little deeper. How do my actions demonstrate my faith? At that basketball game, did I consider all people - all parents, especially our rivals, as if they were members of our community? WWJD? Maybe He would start singing a song to remind us that we are all one.

Thank you, girls, for living your faith. And parents, the next time someone asks you why you send your daughters to Padua, just remember, WWJD?

We are so thankful for the "miracle reminders" that You share with us to bring us into Your arms. Please bless us this week in our decisions, our problem solving, and our relationships. We leave our lives in Your gentle hands.
