2025 Delaware History Teacher of the Year

Padua Academy is proud to announce that Mr. Dan Mahler, History Department Co-Chair and longtime faculty member, has been named the 2025 Delaware History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

This prestigious national award honors outstanding K–12 educators who demonstrate a deep commitment to teaching American history with excellence and creativity. Since 2004, the Gilder Lehrman Institute has recognized more than 1,000 educators across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and U.S. Territories.

As the Delaware honoree, Mr. Mahler will receive a $1,000 award, along with a curated collection of primary source materials and classroom resources from the Gilder Lehrman Institute. His selection was based on a competitive nomination and review process conducted by a committee of teachers, professors, and education leaders in the state.

Mr. Mahler is now in the running for National History Teacher of the Year, which includes a $10,000 prize and will be announced this fall at a special ceremony in New York City. The national winner will be chosen by a distinguished panel of historians and past awardees.

We are thrilled to celebrate Mr. Mahler's well-deserved recognition. His passion for history, commitment to academic excellence, and the profound impact he has made on generations of Padua students continue to inspire our school community.

Way to go, Mr. Mahler! Congratulations!
