Padua Theatre's Successful Production of Anything Goes

This weekend, over 50 Padua, Salesianum, and Cab Calloway students hosted Padua's production of Anything Goes to sold out crowds.

The musical included confessions, mistaken identities, and marriage proposals, all set to the classic music of Cole Porter. When the S.S. American heads out to sea, two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love, proving that sometimes anything goes! Padua Theatre embraced the period costumes, big dance numbers, and outrageous comedy of the piece.

Padua's Theatre Program was founded in 2012 by two students. Padua English teacher Ms. Julian ('13) is one of them. "I am very lucky to come back to the program after 6 years. It is a blessing to see how successful the program has become. I am happy I can be a part of the program once again, this time as a faculty member."

Soon after the program's founding, Lena ('01) and Tom Mucchetti and Tania Potts ('92) joined the production staff. Under their guidance, the program has flourished, providing an individualized arts education at Padua. The program was created to empower students in their theatrical pursuits and to provide an opportunity for leadership. Padua seniors are selected by directors and members of administration as "Student Producers" and play an integral role in production. They are responsible for the fundraising, planning, and promotion of the musical.

This year's Student Producers, seniors Erin Haney and Sydney Kenton, worked diligently to support the program and make the production a success. Sydney stated, "I love performing and participating in musicals, but I also love designing, thinking critically, and being a leader, so producing is the perfect combination for me." Erin is grateful for the lessons in leadership that the role of a Student Producer has provided, describing her experiences as "incredible, educational, and worthwhile." Both students recognize the tremendous group effort that the production requires. "We truly appreciate all of the support we have received this year from students, parents, and faculty. This production would not be possible without the community's love and support of the arts."
