History

The Robert E. Potter, Jr. and Jane Potter Learning Commons and Library at Padua Academy was given by Jane Potter in the memory of her son, Robert E. Potter, Jr., a longtime Social Studies teacher.

As his friend and colleague Barbara Markham read in his eulogy:
"He wanted his students to love what he loved: the printed word and the portraiture, the landscape and the sculpture, Byzantine art and Baroque music…He wanted students to use libraries – to open a book, and not just press a key. He encouraged students to develop libraries of their own and wrote copious annotations to emulate the art of collecting."
Mr. Potter was born on June 20, 1951, and died on August 29, 2012.
