Soccer Sensation Karlee Panella Named Gatorade Player of the Year

Padua midfielder and forward Karlee Panella ’15 has been named the 2014-15 Gatorade Delaware Girls Soccer Player of the Year, the fourth Padua soccer player to receive the award.

In a release, Gatorade said the award “recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field” and “distinguishes Panella as Delaware’s best high school girls soccer player.”

She is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year Award, which will be announced later this month.

In the regular season, Karlee scored 15 goals and 10 assists to help lead the Pandas to a 14-0-1 record and another berth in the state tournament. She is a First Team All-State selection, played on the school’s past three state champion teams, and is ranked 16th in the nation by the National Soccer Coach Association of America.

All the while, she has maintained a 3.52 GPA and volunteered for the Special Olympics and several youth sports programs. She’ll attend the University of Delaware next year on a soccer scholarship.
