Padua Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Padua Academy

2010 Catholic Schools Week Activities

February 1 – February 5, 2010

Monday, February 1: Spirituality

On this day, we celebrate the many ways that members of our school community serve God. Our students and faculty will serve the school as cantors, choir members, lectors, gift bearers, and Eucharistic ministers during morning liturgy. Fr. Kevin Nadolski, OSFS, will preside. During Mass, students will learn about the Fatima House of Light for Girls, a safe sanctuary for girls of Sierra Leone, Africa, who were kidnapped and tortured, and then ultimately rejected by their families. The Fatima House of Light teaches the girls workforce skills, healing and empowering them to become strong and independent women.

Tuesday, February 2: Service

Service to others is a key value instilled in our students at Padua. On this day, having learned about the Fatima House of Light for Girls during yesterday’s liturgy, students will begin a collection for the Fatima House girls through Padua’s Distant Sisters service group. Beginning today and continuing throughout the week, students will donate assorted hygiene products which will then be sent to the Fatima House of Light for Girls in Sierra Leone, Africa.

Wednesday, February 3: Scholarship

This day we celebrate Padua scholars of the past, present, and future. Students will learn about the value of scholarship as a lifelong commitment. We will feature alumnae who are conducting research in various exciting fields of study.  In addition, to show appreciation for faculty and staff, who make their students’ education a priority in their daily lives, Student Council will treat faculty and staff to lunch.  In the evening, we will honor future Padua scholars with a “Scholars Reception” in honor of eighth graders whose excellent performance on the High School Placement Test has earned them Padua scholarships for next year.

Thursday, February 4: Stewardship

On this day, we reflect on our responsibility to perpetuate the legacy of stewardship that has long been a key characteristic of the Padua student. Students will “pay it forward” by raising money for Padua’s endowment fund which provides tuition assistance for future students.  During lunch, students will be encouraged to engage in moderate consumption and limit waste, and a boxed food drive will be held for a donation to a local shelter or soup kitchen.

Friday, February 5: Sisterhood

This day we celebrate the bond of Padua sisterhood that begins as freshmen and continues throughout high school, college and adulthood. A spirit rally for the entire school will be held in the afternoon. The collection for the Fatima House of Light will conclude on this day, with Padua’s Distant Sisters activity group preparing the collection for delivery to Sierra Leone.
