Padua Seniors Gain Insight and Skills from Top Industry Leaders

Before the start of this school year, ten rising seniors participated in The Foundations of Leadership Conference at The Haverford School. These ten seniors, Angela Akumiah, Alena Boyer, Maria DiStefano, Emily Gray, Stefania Lombardo, Jasmine MacFarlane, Sara Mayberry, Camryn Scully, Emily Segura, and Juliana Testa got to start their senior year learning and discussing school leadership.

For two days, Padua students collaborated with seniors from private schools across the Philadelphia area.  Students had two full days of leadership development from top leaders in service, the arts, sports, education, and business.  Students heard leadership perspectives from former USA World Cup soccer star Earnie Stewart, UPenn Character Lab Ex. Director Donald Kamentz, Co-founder of Project HOME Joan McConnon, Lisa Murch of Philly Mural Arts Program and author and Washington Post contributor Homa Tavangar.  Students also attended workshops on Empathy, Adversity, Communication, and Diversity.  Stefania Lombardo shared what she learned at the conference: “An important part of being an authentic leader is building connections with other people so that you can understand more about the person which ultimately leads to an environment where people can work together to achieve similar goals.”

The conference was a great way to start off these student’s senior year and equipped them with leadership tools to start the year. Padua religion teacher Mr. Mike Sheehan and Campus Minister Mrs. Vanessa Vavala accompanied the students to this conference.
