Padua Honors Leigh Anne Tuohy with Women’s Achievement Award

Tuohy Honored with Women's Achievement Award

With more than 500 guests filling the Chase Center on the Riverfront on April 10, Padua Academy held its 5th Annual Dinner in Honor of Women’s Achievement, recognizing the extraordinary story of Leigh Anne Tuohy. Mrs. Tuohy is the inspirational subject behind the movie, “The Blind Side,” which broke numerous box office records and awarded Sandra Bullock an Academy Award for her portrayal of Mrs. Tuohy.

Cindy Hayes Mann, Padua’s Head of School noted in her introductory remarks,  “Leigh Anne is a woman who epitomizes faith in action and reminds us of our call to be of transformational change in another person’s life.”  She continued, “Tonight we are celebrating the transformation that a Padua education gives to young women, the joy of our Lord – for He has given us hearts unafraid to risk love, and the faith in our ability to take the hand of a child – a young man destined to be a national football player – and a young woman who just may change the whole world and provide a life for future generations of real success.”

Mrs. Tuohy was gracious in her acceptance of the award and challenged guests to “get out of their comfort zone” in service to others, those that society has forgotten about or has neglected to give a chance. “Nothing exciting happens in your comfort zone,” exclaimed Mrs. Tuohy.

The event also announced the creation of a Scholarship Fund in the name of Padua’s Founder, Fr. Roberto Balducelli. The scholarship will be for an incoming freshman, based on need, who might not otherwise be able to attend Padua. Leigh Anne Tuohy donated a $1,000 at the end of the night and encouraged others to do the same.

Padua Academy’s Annual Dinner in Honor of Women’s Achievement seeks to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of women who lead lives of faith, service, leadership, and entrepreneurial innovation.
