Padua’s Cross Country team arrived in Manhattan ready to compete with over a hundred high school teams many of which are state champions in their respective states.

The Varsity team, led by Lydia Olivere, finished fourth overall in the featured race of the day – Eastern States Championship where the top 5 teams are recognized. Padua has never placed in the top five in the award-winning race in the history of the program. Padua’s varsity team was represented by Lydia Olivere, Lizzy Bader, Anna Cleary, Katie Hally, Alicia LeNoir, Amber Owens, and Jules LeNoir.

Learning from watching their Varsity teammates all season, Padua’s freshman team placed third overall with another history-making moment.  Coming off her first ever high school cross country win at the Salesianum Invitational, Judy McLaughlin backed that up with another win at the Manhattan Invitational holding off a charging pack of five girls for both the individual win and a new freshman course school record.  Padua’s Freshman team was represented by Judy McLaughlin, Madalyn Minnick, Annie Shea, Lexi Hall, and Mia Wichmann.

Finally, Padua’s JV team was not going to be outdone by their teammates as they too had a podium finish.  Juniors Jackie Holowka, Bridget Kennedy, and Clare Mazzeo led the team to an overall third place finish.  The JV Team was represented by Jackie Holowka, Bridget Kennedy, Clare Mazzeo, Moira Smith, and Abby Vanderloo.
Update: New Rankings published on Oct 19th (before PAXC performance at Bellevue on Friday but after Manhattan) and Padua is now in the top 5 NXN Southeast Regional Rankings. Last season Lydia Olivere earned a bid to the NXN National Championship running as an individual representing the Southeast Region. In November NXN holds regional qualifiers for it national championship XC meet. The top 2 teams in every region earns an automatic bid to compete in the NXN Championship plus the top 5 individuals who are not on one of those top two teams also earn trips to compete.  It is a real honor to be able to be recognized amongst such talent.
