Padua Alum Receives Prestigious Swimming and Diving Award from Princeton

Taylor Shelley, Padua Academy class of 2012, has been honored with Princeton’s ‘Big Al’ Inspirational Female Swimmer Award. Shelley is currently a sophomore swimmer for Rider University’s swimming and diving team.

The award was presented at the conclusion of Princeton’s ‘Big Al’ Open, which took place December 6-8.

Coaches nominate candidates from their teams who have provided inspiration to their teammates through their leadership or response to adversity. Shelley was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2013, and she returned to training and competing within two weeks of diagnosis. The tumor has since resolved itself, and all complications have subsided.

Shelley is a sophomore Biology major at Rider University, where she carries a 3.85 grade point average. She was a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship finalist in her rookie year, helping her team to a runner-up finish at the conference championship meet in Buffalo, New York.
